Hit-and-run lead turns drug bust in Cambridge parking lot

Crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia found in vehicle tied to hit-and-run in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, MD — What began as an attempt to gather information about a hit-and-run investigation quickly escalated into a drug case when Cambridge Police conducted a traffic stop that led to the discovery of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

On Tuesday at approximately 2:50 p.m., detectives from the Cambridge Police Department’s Proactive Community Engagement Team (PACE) were patrolling near Race Street and Elm Street when they spotted a dark blue Chevrolet Impala. Other officers had previously identified the vehicle as being connected to a hit-and-run investigation and needed to gather information on the owner.

Detectives attempted to stop the vehicle for investigative purposes at Cedar Street and Dorchester Avenue. The vehicle slowly continued before eventually pulling into the parking lot of 424 Dorchester Avenue. A CPD K9 unit already on the scene performed a sniff of the vehicle, which resulted in a positive alert for the presence of controlled dangerous substances (CDS).

During the vehicle search, officers located numerous forms of CDS paraphernalia. Further searches of the vehicle’s occupants led to the discovery of additional paraphernalia and crack cocaine.

Three individuals were identified:

  • Randolph Edward Blake, 42, of Cambridge
  • Akemia R’Keria Fletcher, 31, of Cambridge
  • Whitney Nicole Gross, 32, of Cambridge

Both Fletcher and Gross were charged with CDS violations and released on criminal citations. Police did not confirm charges for Blake at this time.
