Juveniles accused of setting fire behind Chestertown home

Chestertown, MD – An afternoon blaze in an alley behind Calvert Street was ruled incendiary after investigators determined three juveniles intentionally set fire to personal property beside a residence.

The fire broke out shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday and was quickly contained by firefighters from the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company.

No injuries were reported and no damage was sustained to nearby structures, authorities said.

Investigation underway in suspected arson case

The fire was reported by a neighbor who called 911 after spotting flames near 427 Calvert Street in Kent County. Firefighters arrived within minutes and extinguished the fire in just over 13 minutes. Officials said the flames were confined to miscellaneous items placed next to the home.

According to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal, evidence indicates the blaze was deliberately started by three juvenile suspects. No arrests have been made, but investigators said charges are pending as they continue gathering evidence and conducting interviews.
