BRONX, NY – Police have identified the man fatally shot on an August morning in the Bronx as 32-year-old Clay Monsanto of Clay Avenue.
Monsanto was standing in front of 1853 Anthony Avenue when an unknown man opened fire around 8:10 a.m., striking him in the back.
He was transported by EMS to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

NYPD releases image of suspect
Detectives from the 46th Precinct have released surveillance images of a man wanted in connection with the killing. The suspect is believed to have fled toward nearby residential blocks immediately after the shooting.
He was identified as Melendez, Evaristo, a 47-year-old male from 110 Mount Place in the Bronx.
Investigators are reviewing footage from surrounding buildings and have increased patrols in the area.
