Somers shooter pleads guilty in killing of teen, wounding of brother and mother
WHITE PLAINS, NY — A man who opened fire inside a Baldwin Place townhome, killing a 15-year-old boy and seriously injuring his younger brother and mother, admitted to the brutal triple shooting in court Thursday.
Fernando Jimenez Meza changed his plea to guilty on all nine charges, including second-degree murder, in a Westchester County courtroom. In exchange, he will serve a sentence of 37 years to life in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.
The attack took place last October inside the family’s home in the Somers hamlet of Baldwin Place. Jimenez Meza admitted in court that he shot Michael Raimondi, 15, who died at the scene, and wounded his 13-year-old brother Matthew, along with their mother, Christina Raimondi, who both survived but suffered critical injuries.
Jimenez Meza initially pleaded not guilty to the charges but accepted the plea agreement to avoid the possibility of a longer sentence if convicted at trial.
Prosecutors did not comment on a motive, and court documents have not disclosed the nature of Jimenez Meza’s connection to the family, if any. The case drew widespread attention in Westchester County following the shocking nature of the home shooting.
Sentencing is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.
