Man arrested after early morning gunfire in Sursum Corda neighborhood
WASHINGTON, DC — A 55-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a shooting incident last week in the Sursum Corda neighborhood of Northwest, where police say he opened fire on a victim and fled before being caught with a weapon minutes later.
The incident happened shortly after 8 a.m. last Friday, when First District officers responded to a report of a person with a weapon in the 1100 block of 1st Street NW. Responding units learned that a suspect had brandished a firearm, shot at the victim, and then left the area on foot.
Officers quickly circulated a lookout and began canvassing the area. Not long after the shooting, a man matching the suspect description was seen nearby. During a stop, officers conducted a protective pat-down and recovered a firearm. A show-up identification was conducted on the spot, and the suspect was positively identified by a witness.
The man arrested has been identified as Thurman Williams, 55, of Northeast, DC. He has been charged with Assault With A Dangerous Weapon, Carrying A Pistol Without A License, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
No injuries were reported in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
