BALTIMORE, Md. – A Maryland Lottery winner turned his good fortune into a moment of generosity by donating his Ravens shopping spree prize to a patient at the Kennedy Krieger Institute.

Douglas Godesky, one of four winners in the Ravens Second-Chance Promotion, gifted his $500 team store shopping spree to 36-year-old Kevin DiLegge of Dundalk.

The act of kindness transformed what was meant to be a personal reward into a heartwarming community moment at M&T Bank Stadium.

Key Points

  • Lottery winner Douglas Godesky donated his $500 Ravens shopping spree to Kennedy Krieger patient Kevin DiLegge.
  • Godesky’s prize was part of the Maryland Lottery’s Ravens Second-Chance Promotion.
  • The promotion runs through Jan. 5, with prizes including season tickets, cash, and fan experiences.

Winner’s generosity inspired by education and community ties

Godesky, now living in New Hampshire, said the idea came from his wife, a former special education teacher in Baltimore. When he learned he’d won season tickets, a parking pass, and a shopping spree through the Maryland Lottery’s partnership with the Baltimore Ravens, she encouraged him to find a way to give back locally.

The couple connected with Kennedy Krieger Institute, which chose Kevin DiLegge as the recipient. DiLegge, a lifelong Ravens fan and patient of the institute since infancy, attended the event with his mother, Mary, and his brother, Andrew.

During the shopping spree, Kevin selected several Ravens items, including a custom Tyler Linderbaum jersey, a letterman jacket, and a Poe mascot plush. The emotional event drew smiles and tears from everyone involved.

Sarah Ryan, assistant vice president of engagement at Kennedy Krieger, praised the gesture. “The family was stunned at first by this gift,” she said, “but then Mary said, ‘Kevin brings us to see that there are so many good people in the world.’ We could not agree more.”

Ongoing partnership between Ravens and Maryland Lottery

The Maryland Lottery and Baltimore Ravens are celebrating their 17th year of collaboration, offering themed scratch-offs and second-chance prizes. Three other winners — Kandis Davis of Upper Marlboro, Brandon Mazzaferro of Essex, and Lester Thomas of Middle River — will attend their shopping spree on Tuesday.

Fans can still participate in the Ravens promotion through Jan. 5 by entering non-winning scratch-offs into My Lottery Rewards for a chance at season tickets, cash prizes, and exclusive team experiences.
