LEHIGH ACRES, FL – A neighborhood confrontation spiraled into a dangerous standoff Sunday when a 23-year-old woman allegedly pointed a gun at a family during a road rage incident.
Deputies say the encounter unfolded at the intersection of 19th Street SW and Ruth Avenue S.
Video from her own car-mounted camera shows the suspect, identified as Esmerelda Cruz, driving toward her neighbors before stepping out of her vehicle and aiming a handgun at them and their dog.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the firearm used in the confrontation was later recovered from Cruz’s home. Sheriff Carmine Marceno called the incident “appalling” and emphasized that road rage will not be tolerated in the county.
“The grid is busier than ever,” Marceno said. “Road rage has no place in Lee County.”
Charges and ongoing investigation
Cruz was taken into custody without further incident and booked on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Deputies have not reported any injuries in the encounter.
