Maryland man wins $50K Pick 5 jackpot using neighbor’s house number
BOWIE, MD — A Prince George’s County man hit a $50,000 jackpot on the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game — and says he owes the win to a neighbor’s house number that came to mind after mowing her lawn.
The longtime Lottery player stopped by Maryland Lottery headquarters on Thursday with his son to claim the prize, revealing that the winning digits — 13605 — were inspired by the address of the neighbor whose grass he had just cut. That spontaneous decision led to a top prize win in the daily Pick 5 drawing.
The winner, who asked not to be identified, said he’s been playing since the Maryland Lottery launched and estimates he’s won more than $80,000 this year alone across various games.
The winning ticket was purchased at Express Mart, located at 15709 Hall Road in Bowie. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
When he checked his ticket the next day and realized all five numbers matched, the player immediately booked an appointment to claim the prize. He said he plans to deposit the winnings and carefully consider how to use them.
