MANASSAS, Va. – A 59-year-old man was assaulted in an attempted strong-armed robbery Thursday morning in Manassas after refusing to hand over his backpack to an unidentified attacker.
The incident occurred just after 11 a.m. in the 8300 block of Sudley Road.
The victim was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Suspect attacked victim after failed robbery attempt
Investigators said the victim was walking when an unknown man approached him from behind and demanded his backpack. When the victim refused, the suspect struck him and chased him down the street. Despite being knocked to the ground, the victim managed to hold onto his property.
Police search area with K-9 unit
The suspect fled on foot before officers arrived. A police K-9 unit canvassed the area but was unable to track the attacker. The victim was later transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Description of suspect released
Police described the suspect as a Black male in his late 40s to 50s, approximately 5-foot-6 and 150 pounds, with a medium build, receding hairline, and unshaven face. He was last seen wearing a tan jacket, cargo-style pants, and a blue hat.

Authorities continue to search for the suspect and urge anyone with information to contact the Prince William County Police Department.
