Hotel guest forced to hand over $3K at gunpoint in Wilkes-Barre

Gunman robs $3K from hotel guest after late-night setup on Kidder Street

WILKES-BARRE, PA – A 61-year-old man staying at a hotel on Kidder Street was robbed at gunpoint after a late-night visit from a friend turned into a terrifying setup involving an unknown armed suspect.

Just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, the victim told police he was in his hotel room when an acquaintance arrived with an unfamiliar man, described as a Black male between 30 and 35 years old. Once inside, the unknown man allegedly pulled out a firearm, pointed it at the victim, and demanded all of his money — threatening to shoot him in the head if he didn’t comply.

The victim said he resisted at first but handed over nearly $3,000 in cash after a brief struggle. The suspect fled the scene immediately after.

No injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made. The investigation remains ongoing as officers review surveillance footage and pursue leads.
