Unlock the Cash final game ends with big wins for two lucky Marylanders
BALTIMORE, MD — A pair of lucky players walked away with thousands in cash and scratch-off tickets after taking part in the Maryland Lottery’s final “Unlock the Cash” Live Game event, capping off the months-long second-chance promotion with a win they won’t soon forget.
Aarchi Patel of Perry Hall and Garry Davis of Mechanicsville were selected to participate in the final round of the lottery’s live event, held at Maryland Lottery headquarters. Each contestant took turns choosing codes to open two safes out of six, with guaranteed prizes ranging between $5,000 and $25,000.
Patel, a college student with plans to attend medical school, unlocked two safes containing a total of $5,000 and $600 worth of Break the Bank scratch-offs. Davis, a retiree, secured $12,500 in total cash prizes after opening safes containing $10,000 and $2,500.
The winners revealed their prize envelopes live on set, hosted by Lottery personality Mike Powell. Davis’ wife celebrated the win with immediate vacation plans, saying it was time to book a cruise, while Davis also expressed hopes of building a new deck and shed at home.
The November event marked the final installment in the “Unlock the Cash” series, which began on August 22. During the first round in September, Patrick Meers of Towson claimed the top prize of $25,000. In October, Brooklyn Park’s Tania Shreve took home $17,500 plus scratch-offs.
In total, the promotion received over 188,000 entries from players who submitted non-winning Break the Bank scratch-offs or Cash Combination FAST PLAY tickets through My Lottery Rewards.
Though the second-chance promotion has ended, Lottery officials say players can still find top instant prizes on the Break the Bank and Cash Combination games at retailers across the state.
