Landlord arrested for murder of former tenant

San Antonio, TX – A landlord is facing murder charges after a fatal shooting involving his former tenant. Joshua A. Ford, 37, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the death of Michael Obryan Martin, also 37.

Martin was found dead from a gunshot wound inside a residence in December 2022. He had moved out of the home owned by Ford just prior to the incident.

The arrest report indicates that Ford spoke with police after the shooting. He admitted to shooting Martin in the face, claiming it was self-defense during an argument about unpaid rent.

Ford had conducted a final inspection when Martin arrived unexpectedly, leading to a confrontation. According to the report, Martin had not paid rent for two months before his eviction.

During the argument, the dispute escalated to a point where Ford claims Martin reached for a weapon. Ford then allegedly shot Martin twice, with one bullet striking him in the face.

After the incident, Ford reportedly unloaded the gun and placed it on a kitchen island before calling 911. Deputies from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ford and charged him with murder.

He is currently being held in the Bexar County Jail without bond.
