Armed suspect robs customer during failed holdup at Lockbourne Road business

COLUMBUS, OH – A late-morning robbery attempt at a business on Lockbourne Road turned into a confrontation with customers after the suspect’s demand to open the cash register failed, according to Columbus police.

The incident occurred on November 21 at 11:14 a.m. when the suspect entered a business in the 1800 block of Lockbourne Road and approached the counter. Police say he pulled out a black handgun and ordered the employee to open the register. When the employee was unable to comply, the suspect turned his weapon toward two customers and demanded their wallets. One customer handed over his wallet before the suspect fled the store.

The man left on foot, heading west and then south into an alley. No injuries were reported.

Police describe the suspect as a Black male between 35 and 45 years old, approximately 5’10” to 6’0″ tall and weighing between 240 and 260 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black toboggan hat, red T-shirt, white pants, and black shoes.

Detectives with the Columbus Division of Police Robbery Unit are asking anyone with information to contact them.
