Lakewood man hits $1 million Powerball prize in Chautauqua County
LAKEWOOD, NY – A Chautauqua County resident is celebrating a massive win after claiming a $1,000,000 second-place prize in the Powerball drawing held on August 27.
William Lasher of Lakewood matched the first five numbers drawn, missing only the Powerball. The winning numbers for the drawing were 09, 12, 22, 41, 61, with Powerball 25.
Lasher opted to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment, which totaled $651,000 after required withholdings.
He purchased the winning ticket at Crosby’s, located at 5 East Fairmount Avenue in Lakewood.
The New York Lottery reported that Powerball sales totaled more than $327.8 million during fiscal year 2024–2025. Statewide, public school districts received more than $1.42 billion in Lottery Aid to Education during that period.
