Bingo fan strikes top prize after spotting new Lottery tickets
ABINGDON, Md. — A Harford County woman’s decision to buy two newly released bingo scratch-offs during an extra stop at a Royal Farms turned into a $50,000 Maryland Lottery prize.
According to the Maryland Lottery, Abingdon resident Natalie Roberts claimed the first $50,000 top prize on the $5 Gold Bar Bingo 7th Edition scratch-off after purchasing two tickets at Royal Farms, 10 Box Hill South Parkway in Abingdon.
Roberts, who enjoys playing bingo-themed scratch-offs, noticed a store employee restocking the Lottery vending machine and asked whether any new bingo games had arrived.
After learning Gold Bar Bingo was available, she purchased two tickets.
The following day, Roberts scratched the tickets and initially believed she had won $50 after completing a diagonal bingo line.
As she continued scratching, additional winning patterns appeared.
“I scratched one more number and realized I was going to win $50,000,” she told Lottery officials.
Although surprised by the win, Roberts said she headed to an exercise class before sharing the news with her husband.
When she got home, he jokingly asked whether she had won $5 million.
“She said, ‘No, but it is $50,000,'” he recalled.
Roberts, who works for an insurance company, told Lottery officials she has no immediate plans for the prize money.
Royal Farms will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Gold Bar Bingo 7th Edition went on sale in July with seven $50,000 top prizes. Following Roberts’ win, six top prizes remain.
