STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A wallet was stolen from a parked vehicle on Melanie Hollow Lane in Stafford County on Monday, sparking a larceny investigation after thieves used the victim’s credit cards to make unauthorized purchases.

The theft occurred around 5:08 p.m. and was reported to Deputy S. C. Steinway. The victim said their wallet had been left inside the vehicle and was discovered missing later in the day. Soon after, fraudulent transactions began appearing on the victim’s credit card accounts.

It remains unclear whether the vehicle was locked at the time of the theft. No suspect description has been provided, and the sheriff’s office has not confirmed the total value of the stolen items or the amount spent in the unauthorized purchases.

The incident comes amid a nationwide uptick in thefts from vehicles during the holiday season, when unattended packages, purses, and wallets are frequently targeted.
