Man indicted for murder in deadly shooting near Jordan Pond in Shrewsbury
WORCESTER, MA – A Worcester County grand jury has indicted 26-year-old Snehal Srivastava for murder and multiple related charges in connection with the fatal August shooting of a 56-year-old man near Jordan Pond, officials announced Thursday.
Srivastava, of Shrewsbury, is accused of shooting Kevin Doherty, also of Shrewsbury, during a confrontation along a walking path near the pond on the morning of August 28. Doherty had placed a 911 call just before 9 a.m. to report the altercation, but during the call, dispatchers heard what they believed to be gunshots before the line went silent.
Responding officers from the Shrewsbury Police Department located Doherty at the scene and provided emergency aid before he was transported to UMass Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Srivastava fled the area but was found shortly afterward at a nearby residence. He was arrested with the help of the Massachusetts State Police Special Tactical Operations Team (STOP), State Police Air Wing, and State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
The grand jury indicted Srivastava on charges of murder, intimidation of a witness, possession of a firearm outside of home or work, and vandalism. He was arraigned on the new charges Thursday in Worcester County Superior Court and ordered held without bail. A court date has been set for January 8.
Srivastava had previously been arraigned in Westborough District Court on charges including armed assault with intent to murder and illegal firearm possession shortly after the incident. He has remained in custody since his initial arrest.
