Suspects open fire on police after crash of stolen car on I-464 in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, VA – A police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended in gunfire late Saturday night when suspects crashed and opened fire on officers near the I-464 ramp to the I-64 Expressway.

The incident began when Virginia Beach Police were tracking a stolen vehicle from their city and notified Chesapeake Police as the pursuit entered their jurisdiction.

At approximately 11:45 p.m., the vehicle crashed on the ramp, and multiple suspects fled on foot, firing at pursuing officers.

No officers were injured during the exchange, and all suspects were taken into custody shortly afterward.

Police pursuit turns violent near highway interchange

Authorities said Virginia Beach officers were following the stolen vehicle when it lost control and crashed. As suspects exited the wreckage, they allegedly discharged firearms while running from the scene. Officers returned fire and secured the area with support from Chesapeake Police.

All suspects apprehended after coordinated response

Following a rapid perimeter setup, law enforcement units from both departments located and detained all individuals involved. Police have not yet released the suspects’ names or the number of people arrested.

Investigators are processing the crash scene and recovering evidence, including shell casings and the stolen vehicle.
