Snow and ice cause morning crash on garden state parkway exit 98 ramp

WALL TWP, NJ – A slick layer of snow and ice led to a crash early Saturday on the southbound exit ramp of the Garden State Parkway near Exit 98 for Route 138.

The crash was first reported around 7:58 a.m., according to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.

Traffic alerts indicated that the incident caused partial lane closures as crews worked to clear the ramp and assess conditions.

Authorities reported that the ramp was reopened after about twenty minutes, once the scene was secured and vehicles were removed.

Hazardous conditions across Monmouth County

Drivers in Monmouth County faced icy patches and slushy conditions through the morning as a light mix of snow and freezing rain moved across central New Jersey.

Transportation crews pretreated several parkway ramps and bridges overnight, but temperatures hovering near freezing created slick spots at several interchanges.

No serious injuries were immediately reported in connection with the Wall Township crash, officials said.

Travel delays and safety advisories

The Turnpike Authority urged motorists to reduce speed and use caution, noting that ramps and overpasses tend to freeze before mainline lanes.

By midmorning, traffic along the affected stretch of the Parkway had returned to normal, though road surface temperatures remained near the freezing mark.
