Police say the suspect fled the scene before being located and taken into custody in South Utica.
UTICA, N.Y. – A 45-year-old Utica man was arrested after allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend inside her home and violating an active order of protection, police said.
Officers responded to the 800 block of South Street on December 11 for a report of a domestic disturbance. When police arrived, they spoke with a woman who reported that her former boyfriend had come to her residence and began banging aggressively on the door.
When she opened it, the man allegedly grabbed her by the throat and threw her around the home several times before she was able to fight back and escape his grasp. The suspect then fled the scene, according to police.
While speaking with the victim, officers confirmed that she held a valid order of protection against the man.
Suspect located and charged in South Utica
After searching the area, police located the suspect, identified as Jonathan Hines, 45, of Utica, in the South Utica neighborhood. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Utica Police Department for processing.
Hines was charged with criminal contempt in the first degree, criminal obstruction of breathing, and harassment in the second degree.
Investigation ongoing
The victim did not require hospitalization, and police did not report any additional injuries. The department emphasized the seriousness of domestic-related offenses and urged anyone in similar situations to seek assistance immediately.
Hines remains in custody pending arraignment in Utica City Court.
