Three arrested after armed carjacking investigation unravels in Dorchester
Boston, MA – A late-night carjacking in Dorchester led to the arrest of three young suspects after investigators pieced together surveillance footage that tracked a stolen vehicle across the neighborhood and uncovered an arsenal of weapons and drugs.
The investigation began Saturday evening, November 29, when officers responded around 8:30 p.m. to the area of Columbia Road and Quincy Street. At the scene, officers learned a vehicle had been taken, assisted the victim, and launched an immediate search, though the car was not initially located.
By the following day, detectives confirmed the incident was an armed carjacking. Investigators determined the victim had been directed to stop at a location in Dorchester, where multiple suspects confronted the victim, including at least one armed with a firearm, before taking the vehicle.
Detectives assigned to District B-2 conducted an extensive review of surveillance footage from residential buildings, private security systems, and City of Boston cameras. Video showed the stolen vehicle arriving at the Indigo Block Apartments on East Cottage Street. Shortly afterward, suspects were seen leaving the area, and a third individual approached on foot and drove the vehicle away.
Additional footage traced the vehicle’s movement through Dorchester before it was parked near Abbotsford Street. Surveillance later showed multiple suspects entering a nearby apartment building carrying items believed to have been taken from the vehicle.
On Friday, December 5, investigators located the stolen vehicle parked and unoccupied outside a residence on Abbotsford Street. The vehicle was towed to Boston Police Headquarters and processed by the Crime Scene Response Unit.
Arrest warrants were executed Tuesday, December 16, by officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force, the Special Operations Unit, and members of the Massachusetts State Police. Leireker Deleon, 18, of Roxbury, Aamir Sylvia, 19, of Dorchester, and Atiana Suazo, 20, of Dorchester, were taken into custody.
All three are charged in connection with a joint-venture armed carjacking stemming from the November 29 incident and are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
Suazo faces charges including armed carjacking with a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, assault with a dangerous weapon, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, larceny over $1,200, threat to commit a crime, and conspiracy. Deleon is charged with armed carjacking with a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, larceny over $1,200, and conspiracy. Sylvia is charged with armed carjacking with a firearm, threat to commit a crime, and conspiracy.
During the investigation, police seized multiple firearms, including a Canik 9mm pistol, a Glock 21 Gen 4 .45 caliber pistol equipped with an automatic conversion device, an FN 10mm pistol, and a Bushmaster XM-15 AR-15–style rifle pistol recovered in two pieces. Officers also recovered a firearm conversion device, high-capacity magazines, ammunition, suspected narcotics including fentanyl and cocaine, marijuana, U.S. currency, and property believed to belong to the victim.
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case as the suspects move through the court system.
