MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. – The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for much of central and southern New Jersey, warning that a mix of snow, sleet, and rain will move into the region late Friday and could make for slippery travel through Saturday morning.

Forecasters said the advisory will remain in effect from 3 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday for areas including Camden, Burlington, Ocean, and Monmouth counties. Between 1 and 3 inches of wet snow are expected, though locally higher totals up to 5 inches are possible where heavier bands develop overnight.

Snow is expected to begin late Friday afternoon, mixing with sleet and changing to rain in some areas by early Saturday as temperatures rise into the upper 30s. The heaviest snowfall is likely to occur between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m., according to the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly.

Drivers are urged to use caution during the evening commute and overnight hours, as untreated roads could become slick and visibility reduced. Officials recommend allowing extra travel time and checking updated road conditions by calling 511.

After the storm clears, temperatures are forecast to drop again Saturday night, with lows around 22 degrees and mostly cloudy skies.

Meteorologists say up to several inches of snow could fall across central and southern New Jersey beginning Friday afternoon, making for hazardous travel through early Saturday.
