NJ lawmakers approve extra $250K for Mikie Sherrill gubernatorial transition

TRENTON, N.J. – The New Jersey Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee has advanced a measure providing additional funding to support Governor-Elect Mikie Sherrill’s transition into office.

The panel voted 11–1 on December 8 to approve Senate Bill 4906, which allocates an extra $250,000 for transition expenses, supplementing the $400,000 already included in the state’s Fiscal Year 2026 budget. The total transition funding under the legislation would rise to $650,000.

According to the committee statement, the funds are intended to assist with administrative, staffing, and logistical costs associated with the gubernatorial handover process. The bill passed favorably without a fiscal note requirement.

Governor-Elect Sherrill, who is preparing to succeed the outgoing administration in January, is expected to begin formal transition operations following certification of the election results.
