Christmas Eve Powerball tickets in Pennsylvania hit for $1.1 million in total prizes
Middletown, PA – Christmas Eve brought major lottery luck to two Pennsylvania players who won a combined $1.1 million in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, including a $1 million ticket sold in Luzerne County and a $100,000 Power Play winner sold in Jefferson County.
The $1 million-winning ticket was sold at Pittston Candy & Cigar Company, located at 197 Broad Street in Pittston. That ticket matched all five white balls drawn — 4, 25, 31, 52, 59 — falling just one red Powerball short of the jackpot. The retailer will receive a $5,000 bonus.
Meanwhile, a $100,000-winning ticket was sold at Martino’s BI-LO, 1200 Main Street in Brockway Borough. That ticket matched four of the five white balls plus the red Powerball (19) and included the $1 Power Play option. The 2x multiplier doubled the prize from $50,000 to $100,000. The retailer will earn a $500 bonus.
The winning tickets were part of a historic Powerball run that ended Wednesday night when a single ticket sold in Arkansas claimed the $1.817 billion jackpot — the second-largest in U.S. lottery history. That jackpot had been building since September 6.
In total, more than 334,800 Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball tickets won prizes in the December 24 drawing, including over 67,400 purchased with Power Play and more than 34,400 with Double Play.
Players have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes. The Powerball jackpot reset to $20 million for the next drawing on Saturday.
