Handgun seized after overnight ShotSpotter alert leads to arrest on Syracuse street
Syracuse, NY – A quiet stretch of South Carbon Street was broken by gunfire before dawn when officers responding to a ShotSpotter alert found a lone man nearby and uncovered a loaded handgun following a brief street investigation.
The incident unfolded around 3:06 a.m. on December 24 in the 100 block of South Carbon Street, where officers were dispatched after the gunfire detection system signaled multiple shots. As officers canvassed the area, one man was seen in the immediate vicinity of the alert location.
After speaking with the individual, officers determined he was connected to the shots-fired incident. A search revealed a black Taurus G2C 9mm handgun equipped with a laser attachment, along with an ammunition magazine, concealed in his pocket.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Telleon Warren, was taken into custody at the scene.
Warren was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree, and criminal possession of a firearm. No injuries were reported, and investigators did not release additional details about the circumstances surrounding the gunfire.
The arrest removed a firearm from the street during the overnight hours as the investigation continues.
