Maryland man arrested after striking teen with helmet in road rage robbery over e scooter clash

Man swings helmet at teen in road confrontation over e-scooter

Curtis Bay, MD – An afternoon confrontation between a driver and two teens riding e-scooters turned violent near a Curtis Bay pier Saturday, ending with one man arrested for robbery and assault after allegedly attacking a juvenile and stealing his helmet.

The incident unfolded around 1:10 p.m. near Hilltop Road and Waterway Court. According to investigators, the teens were riding their scooters in the roadway when a 40-year-old man in a vehicle behind them began yelling at them. After pulling into his nearby driveway, police say one of the teens damaged the man’s truck by breaking a side-view mirror.

The man, identified as Michael Andrew Lentz of Curtis Bay, then reportedly chased the pair to a nearby pier, grabbed one of the teens, forcibly removed his helmet and struck him with it. He then left the scene with the helmet in hand, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

Responding officers quickly located all parties involved. The teen accused of damaging the truck — an 18-year-old male from Pasadena — was cited for destruction of property and released.

Lentz was taken into custody and charged with robbery and assault.

No serious injuries were reported, and the case remains under investigation.
