Father charged with murder in death of infant son in Suitland

SUITLAND, MD – A 24-year-old father has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of his four-month-old son, following an investigation by the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit.

Police said officers responded to an apartment in the 5400 block of Morris Avenue around 12:40 a.m. on December 27 after receiving a report of an unresponsive infant. Despite emergency medical efforts, the baby, identified as Kairo Brooks, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a local hospital.

An autopsy determined Kairo’s cause of death to be blunt force trauma. Investigators said the infant’s father, Khalil Brooks-Clarke, was the only caregiver present at the time of the injuries. After consulting with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, detectives charged Brooks-Clarke with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree child abuse, and related offenses. He remains in custody at the Department of Corrections.

Chief George Nader of the Prince George’s County Police urged community members to report suspected cases of domestic violence or child abuse, emphasizing the need to protect vulnerable victims.
