Troopers respond to hundreds of crashes statewide as winter storm batters New York

Albany, NY – New York State Police say troopers have been working nonstop since Saturday as a powerful winter storm swept across the state, creating dangerous driving conditions and leading to hundreds of accidents and disabled vehicles.

As of Monday morning, troopers had responded to 377 property damage crashes, 27 injury crashes, and 444 reports of disabled or abandoned vehicles, according to a State Police update posted on social media. No fatal crashes have been reported in connection with the storm.

The hazardous conditions stretched from western New York through the Hudson Valley and into the metropolitan region, where heavy snow, freezing rain, and gusty winds made travel treacherous. State Police and local road crews are urging drivers to remain off the roads unless absolutely necessary.
