Man fires at detectives in Glenarden before dramatic arrest

GLENARDEN, MD – A man was taken into custody after allegedly opening fire on an unmarked police vehicle during a tense encounter Wednesday night in a residential area of Prince George’s County, according to authorities. The incident unfolded around 8:15 p.m. in the 8600 block of Fulton Avenue as county detectives were driving through the neighborhood.

Officials said detectives spotted a man standing near the roadway while brandishing a firearm. As their vehicle passed, the suspect fired at the car. No officers were injured, and investigators confirmed the vehicle was not struck by gunfire.

Authorities said the detectives did not return fire. Additional units responding to the area were able to locate and detain the suspect moments later as he attempted to enter an occupied vehicle nearby.

During the arrest, officers recovered a gun from one of the occupants of the vehicle, whom police believe may be associates of the suspect. No injuries were reported among civilians.
