Eastern Shore man turns quick pick into $50,004 Powerball win
Denton, MD – A routine stop at a neighborhood convenience store turned into a five-figure surprise when an Eastern Shore resident discovered his Powerball ticket was worth far more than he first believed.
The Maryland Lottery said the man purchased a $10 Powerball Quick Pick ticket with five combinations on the day of the January 21 drawing at the Goose Creek store on Greensboro Road in Denton, close to his home. Although the jackpot was not at a record level, the player decided to try his luck.
After the drawing, the winner initially thought he had won just $100 after overlooking one of the matching numbers. After checking the ticket again, he realized he had matched four white balls and the Powerball on one line, earning a $50,000 third-tier prize.
Lottery officials said the player also matched the Powerball on another combination, adding $4 to his total winnings and bringing the final prize to $50,004.
The man said he immediately texted his wife with the news. According to the Maryland Lottery, he plans to put the winnings aside for his children.
