EAST ELMHURST, NY – Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect who assaulted a 66-year-old man Friday morning in front of a residence at 23-54 97th Street, within the confines of the NYPD 115th Precinct.

According to investigators, the incident occurred around 8:50 a.m. when the victim was waiting for a passenger in his vehicle. An unidentified individual entered the car and asked to borrow the man’s phone, claiming they needed to change the trip destination. When the victim took the phone back, the suspect struck him in the head with an unknown object before fleeing the area on foot.

Victim treated for head injury

Police said the victim sustained a minor head injury but declined further medical attention at the scene. Detectives are reviewing nearby surveillance footage to identify the assailant and determine whether the attack was targeted or random.
