DUNDALK, MD – The Baltimore County Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that claimed the life of a 78-year-old man Friday evening at the intersection of Merritt Boulevard and Wise Avenue.
Police said officers responded to the scene around 6:40 p.m., where they found Mark Hoerner, 78, pinned beneath a vehicle. Emergency crews extricated Hoerner and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to a preliminary investigation, the driver of a 2014 Toyota Prius was traveling northbound on Merritt Boulevard when the collision occurred. The driver and two passengers inside the Prius were not injured.
Crash Team leading ongoing investigation
Members of the department’s Crash Team are conducting a full investigation to determine the circumstances leading up to the crash. Officials have not indicated whether any charges are expected, and no citations have been issued at this time.
Police said the roadway was temporarily closed Friday night while investigators documented the scene and interviewed witnesses. Anyone who may have been in the area or has dashcam footage is encouraged to contact Baltimore County Police.
