A confrontation inside a suburban Philadelphia gym turned violent Thursday when a man who had been banned over an unpaid bill allegedly returned and stabbed an employee multiple times, leaving the victim with life-threatening injuries.
CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP, PA – Officers responding to a disturbance at the Planet Fitness on South Easton Road found an employee suffering from multiple stab wounds after an argument escalated inside the facility. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Davier Massey, was taken into custody a short distance from the gym and is now facing a series of felony charges, including attempted first-degree murder.
Massey had been barred from the gym the day before the attack due to an outstanding balance, according to reports. He returned Thursday, left, and then came back again around 12:30 p.m., when police say he caused a disturbance that led to the stabbing.

The Cheltenham Township Police Department said officers arrived to find the victim critically injured and in need of immediate medical care. The employee was transported to a nearby trauma center “for treatment for life threatening injuries,” the department said. The victim remains hospitalized and is reportedly recovering.
Investigators allege that the situation escalated rapidly from a verbal dispute into violence. Massey is accused of using a weapon to stab the employee multiple times during the confrontation.
After the attack, officers located Massey “a short distance away” from the scene and placed him under arrest. He is being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.
Charges and corporate response
Massey faces multiple charges, including criminal attempted murder of the first degree, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, harassment, and disorderly conduct. He is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on April 16.
Planet Fitness issued a statement following the incident, saying, “We are saddened by the incident that took place at our Cheltenham location.” The company added, “Our thoughts are with the team member as they recover. We appreciate local law enforcement’s quick action, and the franchise owner is fully supporting them in their investigation.”
The gym remained a focal point of the investigation as authorities continued to piece together the events leading up to the stabbing.
