Double hit turns single drawing into $75K payday for Brandywine player
Brandywine, MD — A Prince George’s County man turned one set of numbers into two major wins, collecting $75,000 from a single Pick 5 drawing after placing multiple bets on the same combination.
The military veteran scored a $50,000 top prize with a $1 straight bet and added another $25,000 win from a 50-cent wager using the same numbers, 10110, during the April 9 evening drawing.
The winner said he regularly plays Pick games and had purchased tickets covering several days, including the winning draw. Days later, while checking numbers on his phone from his car, he recognized the combination immediately.
Lottery officials said the player claimed the $50,000 prize at headquarters in Baltimore on April 13. He had already cashed the $25,000 prize at a casino, where Maryland Lottery prizes up to $25,000 can be redeemed.
The Brandywine resident credited his routine to lessons from his mother, who introduced him to playing number combinations on a regular basis.
The $50,000-winning ticket was purchased at Dyson’s Store, located at 13706 Brandywine Road. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.
Officials noted the week ending April 12 produced multiple winners, including 25 additional prizes at the $25,000 level.
The winner said he plans to use the money to pay down debt and complete repairs on his vehicle.
