CUMBERLAND, MD – Two Cumberland residents were arrested Thursday after police served bench warrants in separate cases involving missed court appearances and probation violations, according to a department press release.
Officers took William Victor Wight, 41, into custody on a warrant issued after he failed to appear in court on a trespassing charge. During the arrest, police reported finding suspected illegal drugs and paraphernalia in his possession. In a separate case the same day, Brittany Nicole Lambert, 38, was arrested on two bench warrants tied to violations of probation stemming from prior theft and credit card charges.
Drug charges follow missed court appearance
According to the Cumberland Police Department, “the warrant was issued as a result of Wight failing to appear in court on an original charge of Trespass-Railroad Property.” Police stated that Wight “was arrested and found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine, suspected fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia.”
Wight was charged on-view with CDS: Possess Paraphernalia and two counts of CDS: Possess-Not Cannabis. He later appeared before a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing and “was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on a $1,000 percentage bond,” the department said.
Probation violation leads to second arrest
In a separate incident, police reported serving two bench warrants on Lambert. “The warrants were issued as a result of Lambert violating probation on original charges of Theft: $100 to Under $1500 and Credit Card: Steal Another’s,” the release stated.
Lambert was taken into custody and brought before a District Court Commissioner. Police said she “was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on two $100 bonds.”
Both arrests occurred Thursday as part of warrant service operations conducted by the Cumberland Police Department.
