Pittsburgh arrest under scrutiny after video shows use of force
Pittsburgh, PA — A police use-of-force incident caught on video is under review after an officer struck a suspect during an arrest tied to drug complaints in a city neighborhood.
The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police said the incident occurred April 15 shortly after 7 p.m. in the 7200 block of Forest Way, where officers were responding to reports of drug activity inside an abandoned structure.
Officers encountered two individuals allegedly in possession of drug paraphernalia. One of them, identified as 28-year-old Angel Bradford, fled on foot before being apprehended in a nearby field.
According to police, body-worn camera footage shows Bradford resisting as officers attempted to escort her to a patrol vehicle. During the struggle, an officer can be heard telling her to stop biting and to release his leg before striking her once in the face.
Emergency medical services responded to evaluate Bradford at the scene before she was transported to the Allegheny County Jail.
She faces charges including aggravated assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and disorderly conduct.
Police said the incident has been referred to a Pennsylvania State Police use-of-force expert for independent review following concerns raised by community members.
Officials confirmed all officers involved had body cameras activated and said the investigation is ongoing.
