Target store stop leads to arrest after ATM theft
Boston, MA — A man attempting to withdraw cash from an ATM in Fenway was knocked to the ground during a struggle before officers quickly tracked down and arrested a suspect inside a nearby store, police said.
The incident unfolded around 4:46 p.m. Thursday near 1333 Boylston Street. According to Boston police, the victim was using an ATM when an unidentified man approached and tried to grab the cash directly from his hands.
A brief struggle followed, during which the victim was pushed to the ground. The suspect then fled the scene with the money.
Officers broadcast a description of the suspect and were directed to a nearby Target store, where they located an individual matching that description. Following a positive identification, the suspect was taken into custody.
During a search, officers recovered the victim’s stolen cash as well as merchandise taken from the store.
Police identified the suspect as 44-year-old Alex Reis of Revere. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges including unarmed robbery, larceny under $1,200, and trespassing.
