DC sets curfew zone in Navy Yard as officials move to control large youth gatherings

Washington, DC — A temporary curfew zone has been established in the Navy Yard area as city officials move to limit large youth gatherings they say could pose a risk to public safety.

The Metropolitan Police Department announced the action under Mayor’s Order 2026-050, which allows the police chief to designate specific areas as Juvenile Curfew Zones when conditions warrant.

The zone covers a section of Southeast D.C., bordered by Interstate 695 and Virginia Avenue to the north, 8th Street SE to the east, the Anacostia River to the south, and South Capitol Street to the west.

The curfew restrictions were in effect from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. During that time, anyone under the age of 18 is prohibited from gathering in groups of nine or more in public spaces or businesses within the designated area, unless participating in exempted activities.

Officials said the measure is intended to address concerns about large groups forming in the area.

The department also reminded residents that a citywide juvenile curfew remains in place nightly from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
