Cumberland officers arrested the suspect on a newly issued bench warrant

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A Cumberland man accused of failing to appear in court on a trespassing charge was arrested Thursday after police said he was also found carrying suspected drug paraphernalia.

According to the Cumberland Police Department, 59-year-old Frank Leonard Nicol Sr. was taken into custody on an active bench warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court earlier that day.

Investigators said Nicol allegedly failed to appear in court regarding a previous trespassing case.

Police said officers also discovered suspected controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia in Nicol’s possession at the time of his arrest.

Authorities issued Nicol a criminal citation connected to the paraphernalia allegation.

Following an initial appearance before a District Court commissioner, Nicol was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on a $500 bond.

All charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
