Cumberland officers arrested the suspect on multiple failure to appear warrants

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A Cumberland man wanted for repeatedly missing court appearances was arrested Thursday after police said officers also discovered suspected crack cocaine during the arrest.

The Cumberland Police Department said 42-year-old Jason Thomas Crandall was taken into custody on three active bench warrants issued by the Allegany County District Court.

Investigators said the warrants were issued April 20 after Crandall allegedly failed to appear in court on previous charges involving controlled dangerous substance possession and trespassing.

Police said officers arrested Crandall Thursday and later discovered suspected crack cocaine in his possession.

Authorities issued an additional criminal citation charging Crandall with possession of a controlled dangerous substance not involving marijuana.

Following an initial appearance before a District Court commissioner, Crandall was released on his own recognizance.

All charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
