Cumberland police say the suspect fled officers before being captured blocks away
CUMBERLAND, Md. — A woman walking in the middle of a Cumberland roadway while yelling at passing vehicles ended up in handcuffs after police said she fled officers and was found to have multiple active warrants.
According to the Cumberland Police Department, an officer spotted 53-year-old Neroli Mae on Greenway Avenue Thursday while she was allegedly obstructing traffic and shouting at drivers.
Police said the officer recognized Mae as someone with active arrest warrants and attempted to stop her.
Investigators said Mae fled on foot but was apprehended a short distance away without further incident.
Authorities charged Mae with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Police also served her with three bench warrants issued by the Allegany County District Court in October 2025.
The warrants allege Mae violated probation conditions connected to previous convictions involving theft, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
Following an initial court appearance, Mae was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center, where she is being held without bond.
All charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
