Retired school worker scores big scratch off surprise in Maryland

Upper Marlboro retiree becomes second player in two days to claim top Triple Red 7s Tripler prize

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Lightning has struck twice for Maryland Lottery players after an Upper Marlboro man became the second person in just two days to claim a $57,777 top prize from the Triple Red 7s Tripler scratch-off game.

The Prince George’s County resident visited Maryland Lottery headquarters on Thursday to claim the prize after purchasing the winning ticket at Weis Market, located at 750 Prince Frederick Blvd. in Prince Frederick.

The winner told Lottery officials he bought three scratch-off tickets during the visit.

His luck started quickly, with one $5 scratch-off producing a $20 win and a second ticket delivering another $50 prize.

Feeling fortunate, he moved on to the third ticket, a $5 Triple Red 7s Tripler scratch-off.

The retired school employee said he uncovered the word “Autowin” above the game’s $57,777 top prize amount.

The discovery left him stunned.

According to Lottery officials, the winner plans to take a vacation with part of the money while saving the rest.

“The first thing I am going to do is put it in the bank,” he told Lottery officials.

The win comes just one day after a Laurel woman claimed the first top prize awarded in the Triple Red 7s Tripler game.

The Triple Red 7s family of games launched on May 15.

Lottery officials said six top prizes worth $57,777 remain unclaimed in the Triple Red 7s Tripler game.

Weis Market will receive a $577 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
