Teen and 20-year-old charged after driver allegedly pistol-whipped and robbed in DC
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A rideshare driver’s overnight shift turned violent when a passenger allegedly pulled a gun, struck the victim, and stole the vehicle before police tracked down two suspects and recovered the car within hours.
The Metropolitan Police Department announced the arrests of two suspects in connection with an armed carjacking that occurred early Wednesday in Southwest DC.
According to investigators, the incident happened at approximately 1:05 a.m. in the 2100 block of 1st Street Southwest.
Police said the victim, a rideshare driver, was inside a stopped vehicle with the suspects when one of them allegedly brandished a handgun, struck the driver, and demanded the vehicle.
The suspects then fled in the victim’s vehicle.
Authorities later recovered the stolen vehicle.
Later that day, officers with the United States Park Police located the vehicle and arrested 20-year-old Ge’onnie Fields of Southeast Washington and a 14-year-old juvenile male from Northeast Washington.
Following an investigation by the Carjacking Task Force, both suspects were charged with armed carjacking.
The investigation remains ongoing.
