Jeffely Pargo is Maryland’s lone national semi-finalist in a competition that ends with a $1 million payday at NASCAR Championship Weekend
FREDERICK, MD – A Frederick lottery player is moving closer to a potential $1 million payday after being selected as Maryland’s representative in the national NASCAR Powerball — The Chase to $1 Million promotion.
Jeffely Pargo of Frederick is one of just 25 semi-finalists from across the country still pursuing the promotion’s $1 million grand prize.
Pargo has already won $2,000 by reaching the national semi-finalist stage.
His path to the national competition began with the Maryland Lottery’s NASCAR Powerball — The Chase Second-Chance Promotion, which ran from May 4 through June 15.
More than 22,000 Maryland Lottery players entered Powerball tickets into the state promotion.
Forty players were selected to receive $2,500 prizes, and those winners were then entered into another random drawing to determine who would represent Maryland in the national competition.
Pargo emerged as the state’s representative.
The 25 national semi-finalists were revealed Sunday during coverage of the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on USA Network.
The competition now follows a series of elimination rounds modeled on NASCAR’s championship format.
Twenty of the 25 semi-finalists will advance in the next drawing and receive another $3,000 each. Those advancing players are scheduled to be announced Sept. 27 during the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway.
The field will later be cut to 10, with each remaining player receiving $5,000. Those semi-finalists are scheduled to be announced Oct. 18 during the Freeway Insurance 500 at Phoenix Raceway.
Four finalists will then be selected and announced Nov. 1 during the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway.
Each of the final four will receive a VIP trip to the NASCAR Cup Series Championship race at Homestead Miami Speedway on Nov. 8.
One finalist will ultimately receive the $1 million grand prize before the championship race, while the other three will each receive $10,000.
This season marks the fourth consecutive year a lottery player will have an opportunity to win $1 million through the NASCAR Powerball promotion at the NASCAR Cup Series Championship.
