Sedan slams SUV then kills landscaper in horrific Chesapeake crash

Worker struck and killed after out-of-control car leaves roadway, police say

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A landscaper was killed Friday morning when a speeding sedan crashed into an SUV, spun out of control, and barreled off the roadway before striking the worker, according to Chesapeake Police.

The deadly crash happened at approximately 9:49 a.m. in the 400 block of Johnstown Road.

Police said preliminary findings indicate a black sedan was traveling southbound on Johnstown Road at a high rate of speed when it collided with a red SUV that was turning onto Johnstown Road from Britwell Drive.

Investigators said the impact caused the black sedan to lose control and leave the roadway.

The vehicle then struck a landscaper who was working nearby.

The landscaper was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries, according to police.

The Chesapeake Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded and is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
