A portion of the Sports Perimeter Trail at the Jackson Justice Complex is expected to remain closed for several months while an environmental study is conducted.
JACKSON, N.J. — Residents who use the Sports Perimeter Trail at the Jackson Justice Complex are being advised that a section of the popular walking path has been temporarily closed as environmental work moves forward on the property.
The Jackson Pathfinders said they have received numerous questions about the partial closure, which affects access points near the skating rink and skate park on the western end of the complex off West Veterans Highway.
Key Points
• Part of the Sports Perimeter Trail at the Jackson Justice Complex has been temporarily closed.
• The closure is tied to an environmental study and is expected to last several months.
• Most of the trail remains open and accessible through other entry points.
While some trail entrances are unavailable, the majority of the trail system remains open to the public. Visitors can still access the trail from several locations behind the athletic fields and behind the Jackson Branch Library.
“Most of the trail is still open and there are several access points behind the ball fields and behind the library,” the Jackson Pathfinders said in an update to residents.
Western section affected by closure
According to the organization, the closed portion is identified as the “West Segment” on the trail map. Access points near the skating rink and skate park have been blocked off and marked for visitors.
The closure is related to an environmental study being conducted in the area. Officials expect the affected section to remain inaccessible for the next few months while the work is completed.
Alternate access remains available
The Jackson Pathfinders noted that closed access points are clearly marked and encouraged visitors to review trail maps before heading out. Walkers and hikers can continue using most of the trail network through the remaining open entrances.
“We are fortunate to have so many great places to walk in Jackson,” Corresponding Secretary Jon Chappell said in the notice.
