Wanted man facing gun charges arrested with loaded pistol police say

A man already wanted on multiple firearm charges was arrested after Boston police say he was found carrying another loaded handgun, marking what investigators describe as his third firearm-related offense.

BOSTON, Mass. — A Jamaica Plain man wanted on felony firearm charges was arrested Monday after officers allegedly found another loaded handgun in his pocket, according to the Boston Police Department.

Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested 46-year-old Muhammad Yahya at approximately 1:49 p.m. in the area of 3090 Washington Street in Jamaica Plain.

Police said officers knew Yahya was wanted on an active warrant issued by Roxbury District Court that included charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card as a subsequent offense, carrying a firearm without a license as a third offense, firearm violations with a prior violent or drug crime, possession of a Class B drug and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Officers spotted Yahya near Atherton Street before following him to Washington Street, where they informed him of the warrant and took him into custody.

During a search following the arrest, officers recovered a Ruger .380-caliber pistol from Yahya’s pants pocket.

Police said the firearm was loaded with seven rounds of live ammunition.

Yahya is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on new charges of carrying a loaded firearm as a third offense, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without an FID card.

The charges are allegations, and Yahya is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
