A resident locked the door just before an unknown person allegedly tried to enter the home, deputies said.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A Stafford County resident reported a frightening late-night encounter after an unknown person allegedly tried to open the front door of a home before leaving the area, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at approximately 11:09 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, to White Pine Circle for a report of a suspicious person.

According to investigators, the resident saw the suspect attempt to open the home’s door but managed to lock it before the person could enter.

Deputies said the suspect then tried to open the door a second time before walking away.

A search of the surrounding area did not locate the individual.

No additional information about the suspect has been released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
