Driver accused of pointing handgun in Greenbelt road rage arrested

Police say a driver pointed a handgun at another motorist twice during a road rage confrontation before officers tracked down the suspect using a photo of the vehicle’s license plate.

GREENBELT, MD — A road rage confrontation in Greenbelt ended with the arrest of an armed suspect after the victim photographed the suspect’s vehicle and license plate, according to the Greenbelt Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of westbound Greenbelt Road and Edmonston Road.

Police said the suspect, who was driving a white Lexus SUV, allegedly pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle and pointed a handgun at the victim on two separate occasions.

The victim was able to photograph the suspect’s vehicle, including its registration plate, providing officers with information that helped identify the SUV.

Police later located the parked Lexus in the 6400 block of Springhill Drive.

When the suspect exited an apartment building, officers took the individual into custody on charges related to the handgun.

Police have not released the suspect’s identity or the specific charges.

The investigation remains ongoing.
