VOORHEES, N.J. – The Camden County Office of Emergency Management has activated a Code Red Alert in response to hazardous air quality conditions forecast by the National Weather Service.
The alert began Friday at 7 a.m. and continues through Saturday, with the Air Quality Index expected to exceed 200, a level considered very unhealthy. Officials said the county has activated its Code Red Response Plan in accordance with state law to assist vulnerable residents.
Cooling centers and assistance available
County officials said cooling centers are available in Camden City, with a separate location designated for residents living outside the city.
Residents are encouraged to remain indoors as much as possible and limit outdoor exposure until air quality improves. Anyone needing assistance or wishing to report someone in need of shelter can call 2-1-1.
Officials urge precautions
The alert was shared by the Voorhees Police Department, which encouraged residents to stay informed and take precautions to protect those most vulnerable to poor air quality, including older adults, children, and individuals with respiratory or heart conditions.
